Dr. Kalpana Chawla State Scientists and
Engineers Awards for the years 2006 and 2007
The Government of Karnataka has been encouraging
well known Scientists and Engineers by honouring with awards. The awards are
given in the name of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, Sir C. V. Raman, Prof. Satish Dhawan
and Dr. Kalpana Chawla.
Sir M. Visvesvaraya awards are given to senior
scientists for their lifetime achievement and contributions for the
development of science and technology in the State. This award carries a cash
reward of Rs.50,000/- (Rupees fifty thousand only), a memento and a citation.
Sir C. V. Raman awards are given to young
scientists for their outstanding achievements in following five different
fields:
This award carries a cash reward of Rs.25,000/-
(Rupees twenty five thousand only), a memento and a citation.
Prof. Satish Dhawan awards are given to young
engineers for their outstanding achievements in the following four fields.
Dr. Kalpana Chawla Award is given to a young
women scientist for outstanding achievements in the field of Science and
Technology.
Dr. Raja Ramanna, Sir C. V. Raman, Prof. Satish Dhawan and Dr. Kalpana Chawla
awards carries a cash reward of Rs.25,000/- (Rupees twenty five thousand
only), a Memento and a Citation.
Government of Karnataka has constituted a
committee under the Chairmanship of Prof. C N R Rao, Scientific Adviser to the
Prime Minister to select eligible Scientists & Engineers for these awards.
Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) is responsible for
operationalisation of these State Scientists and Engineers Awards.
During August 2007, the KSCST invited the nominations for the above State
awards for the years 2006 and 2007. The committee chaired by Prof. C. N. R.
Rao has selected eminent scientists / engineers for these awards and the names
of awardees have been approved by the Government of Karnataka.
The Karnataka State Council for Science and
Technology (KSCST) is organising the awards presentation function on 10th
September 2008 at 11.00 am at J. N. Tata Auditorium, Indian Institute of
Science, Bangalore 560 012.
Sri. B. S Yeddyurappa, Hon'ble Chief Minister,
Government of Karnataka and President of Karnataka State Council for Science &
Technology has kindly consented to present the awards. Sri. Anand Vasant
Asnotikar, Hon’ble Minister for Science & Technology and Fisheries, Government
of Karnataka will preside over the function. Karnataka Rathna Prof. C. N. R.
Rao, FRS, National Research Professor and Chairman, Scientific Advisory
Council to Prime Minister and Prof. P. Balaram, Director, Indian Institute of
Science will be the Chief Guests.
